Maeve Grieve is a Melbourne-based singer, songwriter and guitarist. Her debut EP, Midnight Commute, was released in November 2024. Blending elements of jazz, folk and indie rock, Midnight Commute showcases Maeve’s distinctive narrative songwriting, interwoven with her intricate yet catchy guitar playing. Midnight Commute is a collection of four raw and introspective tracks that explore themes of journeys, change, nighttime, and longing - each a personal and outward reflection from this young, emerging artist.

As a selection of tunes written from her time study in the Bachelor of Music (Jazz and Improvisation) at The Victorian College of the Arts, Midnight Commute highlights the diverse array of musicians and collaborators met throughout this time. From close friends to musical peers and teachers, Maeve has brought together an eclectic line-up of talent to create a vast and ever-shifting sound world.

Recorded in the Brain Brown Studios, Melbourne, with the help of IgniteLab funding, this body of work came to life throughout the beginning of 2024. Co-produced by Maeve and Erin Sherlock, who also engineered the EP, it draws inspiration from such varied artists as Fiona Apple, Madison Cunningham, Joni Mitchell and Radiohead. The creative flair of Erin Sherlock can also be heard in the woodwind and string arrangements that underpin the songs.

Beyond the release of Midnight Commute, Maeve has recently completed her Honours in Jazz and Improvisation at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, studying with highly regarded musicians and academics, Dylan van der Schyff, Theo Carbo and Gian Slater. She was recently named as the recipient of the inaugural LUMINA Composition Award at the Melbourne Women’s International Jazz Festival (MWIJF) .

Alongside her solo career, Maeve forms one half of the acoustic folk duo, Homeward, with Noah James. She can also be seen regularly playing guitar for a number of Melbourne based artists.
